Del Valle ISD Newton Collins Elementary School
Newton Collins Elementary School, Del Valle ISD’s ninth elementary school, opened its doors in August of 2018. The land where the school is located was purchased by the school’s namesake, Newton Isaac Collins Sr., a freed slave, more a century ago. The facility was designed to be representative of the surrounding land of McKinney Falls State Park. It includes limestone and wood, as well as rippling textures to represent water. This school, attended by Pre-K through fifth grade, is divided into neighborhoods which offer common areas outside of the classrooms. These spaces are often used for science labs or computer stations. The facility also includes a library, cafetorium, and gymnasium.
